With the easing of Lockdown, many of us find ourselves in a different position to where we were this time last year. The last twelve months have not been kind and a lot of us have experienced some major changes to our circumstances. We’ve lost jobs or decided we are not happy with our current employment, we’ve lost contact with our friends and struggle to picture future social interactions and our healthy exercise regime has gone out the window. Rather than emerging from lockdown like beautiful butterflies, some of us are feeling like rather sad, exhausted blobs.
Well, all hope is not lost. We are here to say that it’s time to get ourselves back on track and make some positive changes to our lives. It’s never too late to better ourselves, learn new things or just reclaim our lives and our mental health.
We’ve compiled a handy list of things you can do to start making some positive changes to your life today and start to feel happy with yourself again. Join us in unleashing our potential upon the world and start to feel happy again:-

Make it a habit
If you’re looking to make some changes to your lifestyle then it’s up to you to commit to them. The easiest way to start forming a new mindset is to start establishing some small, achievable habits that will help you in your endeavours. Looking to lose weight? Start a food diary and commit to writing in it every day so that you can spot the extra calories that sneak in and sabotage you.
Interested in developing your skills? Make some time every day to study and develop yourself. Want to be a writer? Then write every day. It doesn’t matter when you do these things as long as your consistent. Research suggests that it takes 21 days to form a habit, so if you’re passionate about doing something to improve yourself then you have to be dedicated until it becomes second nature.

Focus on your bitesize priorities
To unleash your full potential, you must decide what your priorities are and focus on them. If you’re looking for a new job, you would focus on updating your CV, applying for jobs online and practicing your interview skills. If you want to re-establish your friendships, then focus on communicating with these people, initiating conversations and planning opportunities to get together.
You may notice that I’m only associating three tasks with each priority. In our working life, we are often taught to focus on 3 things that we want to accomplish throughout the day. This ensures that we have 3 definable tasks to achieve and makes achieving them far more realistic! Our personal priorities are no different. Break them down into 3 tasks and this will ensure that whatever your goal, you don’t feel as though you have a mountain to climb.

Make time to exercise
I know, I know, we sound like a broken record when it comes to talking to you about exercise but it’s only because we care! Exercise is so good for your mental health. We’re not talking about running a marathon here. Just going for a walk everyday can help you to feel better about yourself and put you in a positive frame of mind and guess what? You can’t change your life without some positivity or else, you’ll get nowhere. Your brain needs those endorphins honey, so feed it!

Get some cheerleaders
Change can be hard and pursuing your goals every day on your own can be lonely. We all need some motivation sometimes so we would highly recommend finding some cheerleaders to celebrate your goal achievements, commiserate when you’re feeling a bit tired and cheer you on to get you over the finishing line.
These people could be friends or family or they could be a part of a specific support group. If you’re looking for a job, you could find them on an interview skills forum. If you’re a member of a weight loss club, these could be people who are trying to lose weight right alongside you. Wherever you find them, the cheerleaders in your life are important and they are the ones who will get you through your tough days and out the other side.

Commit
When it comes to you wanting to change an aspect of your life, you may assume that everyone will be behind you, supporting you, encouraging you…. Sadly, this is not always true. There will inevitably be some doom-mongers who come along and try to derail or suspend the positive changes that you’re looking to make in your life.
It’s not their fault. They could be just trying to look out for your best interests but at the end of the day, IT’S YOUR LIFE. If you want to change your life and you believe that want you want is achievable then just bloody go for it. No one can live your life but you and you could spend forever thinking of excuses or reasons why you need to wait to do it. Don’t. Get started now and commit to the change you want to make. It’s the only way those dreams of yours will ever come true.

We hope these tips for unleashing your post-lockdown potential get you inspired to make those changes to your life that you’ve been dreaming about. Life hasn’t been easy for many of us but there is still time for you to shine. It’s never too late to start making positive changes in your life. Try it today. You just might like it.
